The demand for electrical energy in Egypt is increasing rapidly over the past decade. To meet the growing power demand, the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC), Ministry of Electricity and Energy has the expansion plan to increase the power production including the capacity extension of some of the existing power plants. The Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company proposed to add a new unit of 1×650 MW to the existing Assiut Power Plant to increase the electricity production of the plant to fulfil the future demand of electricity. The Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI) was requested by Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company to carry out the hydraulic, morphological and hydrothermal modelling studies within the framework of the feasibility study of the capacity extension of Assiut Power Plant.
